Introduction
Rhabditid nematodes are widely distributed in various soil types and sediments, playing critical ecological roles as primary consumers or as member in other trophic levels of food webs.
Materials and Methods
During a survey conducted to identify bacterivorous nematodes in East Azarbaijan province, several soil samples were collected during 2021 and 2022. Nematodes were extracted using Brown & Boag (1988) methode, fixed and transferred to pure glycerin according to De Grisse (1969).
Results and Discussion
In this study, 48 species of rhabditid nematodes were collected and studied, among the extracted nematodes, one species from the genus Acrobeloides as A. nanus and two species of the genus Paracephalobus as P. quinilineatus and P. saeedi were also identified. This is the first report of the occurrence of the genus Paracephalobus in Iran. Paracephalobus quinilineatus is characterized by its body length 594-769 µm; lateral fields with five longitudinal incisures; primary axils deep, U-shaped, lacking guard processes; secondary axils shallow, V-shaped, lacking guard processes; three conoid labial probolae; cephaloboid stoma; cephaloboid pharynx, pharyngeal corpus fusiform; post-vulval uterine sac 44-63 µm; female tail subcylindrical with rounded terminus; spicules curved ventrad, 38-43 μm long and tail conoid with blunt terminus. The second species is distinguished by 946-1028 µm body length; presence of five longitudinal incisures in lateral fields; U-shaped primary axils; secondary axils V-shaped; primary and secondary axils lacking guard processes; three conoid labial probolae; stoma cephaloboid; pharynx cephaloboid, slightly fusiform corpus; post-vulval uterine sac 65-80 µm; tail conoid and males absent.
