Free-living nematodes are among the most abundant soil fauna in orchards, and as soil biological indicators, due to their species diversity and population density, they make an important contribution in evaluating the health and stability of soil ecosystems. In order to identify free-living nematodes in the orchards of Azarshahr during 2023 and 2024, 80 soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of walnut, almond, Russian olive, apricot, and pistachio trees, and the nematodes were isolated and identified by the usual methods. As a result, a total of 28 species of free-living nematodes belonging to 20 genera and 11 families were identified. Among them, Tylencholaimus proximus is reported as new for the nematode fauna of Iran based on available literature. Females of the studied population were characterized by relatively small body size, perioral region not disc-like, lips moderately separated and angular, odontophore with distinct basal knobs, pharynx gradually expanding into the basal bulb, mono-prodelphic genital system, and convex conoid tail with rounded terminus. In addition, males of Crassolabium cylindricum and Discolaimus agricolus were identified. The posterior body region of males of both species bears eight ventromedian supplementary papillae located outside the spicules range.
